Controlling Excess Water Around Your Property
Damage caused by too much water
Heavy rain and melting snow can result in water accumulating in areas around your property, forming standing puddles that can harm both your landscape and your home’s foundation. The moisture from water that builds up close to your house may cause wooden siding and trim to rot, and promote the growth of unsightly and unhealthy mold and mildew. Water may also break down a concrete foundation by seeping into small cracks, and then expanding when the temperature dips below freezing. In low lying parts of your yard, standing water can erode grass and soil, rendering these areas unusable and unsafe, and creating the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and other harmful pests. Redirecting this unwanted water is an effective way to remediate these concerns.
Diverting this excess water
Installing a curtain or French drain may be the perfect solution to move water away from your foundation or problematic areas of your yard. A gently sloping trench is dug to channel the water away using the force of gravity, often with a perforated pipe placed at the bottom that may be wrapped in water-permeable cloth to help prevent blockages and increase efficiency. The trench is then filled with stone and gravel, providing a path of least resistance for the water to flow into. After reviewing your property’s water issues, our team of professionals will determine which type of drain is most appropriate, how deep and at what angle the trench should be dug, and devise an exit strategy for the water to properly drain away. Our expert landscapers will place edging at the surface to hold the stone and gravel in place, and finish the new area with complementary mulch and plantings, creating an attractive addition to your landscape while concealing the new drainage system.
