Water Conservation and Our Green Initiatives
Using water wisely
Once again our area is experiencing drought-like conditions as the summer temperatures rise following months of low precipitation. Our team at Gerbert & Sons has always considered water conservation a high priority as we strive to keep your property healthy and beautiful. In previous blog posts we have detailed our recommendation for highly efficient smart irrigation controllers that water your lawn as needed based on weather conditions, and at the proper time of day for optimum results. We also suggest adding the benefits of drip irrigation, watering your plantings in a slow and steady fashion at their roots, reducing waste from runoff and evaporation. Adding a 2” to 3” layer of fresh mulch increases water retention and provides a protective blanket of insulation. Our experts can advise the best selection of low water use and drought resistant native plantings, shrubs, and trees that will ease dependence on this precious resource.
Sustainable property care
Our commitment to ecologically sound landscaping practices is not limited to water conservation. Yard waste is delivered to a nearby facility where it is converted to nutrient rich compost to be used for future plantings. At Gerbert & Sons we brew our exclusive organic compost tea to feed and sustain your soil with beneficial nutrients and microorganisms, instead of applying chemical fertilizers. Ticks and other pests are treated with our organic management programs rather than spraying harmful pesticides. We have incorporated propane powered mowers into our landscaping equipment for their lower environmental impact and emissions. Although traditional billing is still available, we wish to thank our many clients who have moved to our paperless option. When taken as a whole, all of these small steps will result in great benefits for your property as well as caring for our environment.
