Improving Your Property and Combating Pests
Creating the perfect landscape and beautiful lawn
With your property in full bloom, it’s the optimum time to review your plantings and lawn for areas that might need some filling-in and freshening-up. Do you have an area that seems sparse and with new shrubs, trees or other plantings would become complete? Let our landscape experts suggest the most appropriate additions to bring your property to its most stunning best. Turning our attention to your lawn, are there areas that are patchy or thinning? Gerbert & Sons lawn specialists will evaluate your grass and determine the best course of action to make it healthy, lush, and full. We plant superior Jonathan Green grass seed products, including endophyte enhanced options. Endophytes are living fungi that naturally help grasses weather extreme heat and drought, and resist harmful insects and diseases without chemicals. These new seeds can be introduced into your lawn by slice seeding or overseeding with aeration. Aeration perforates your lawn with small holes which allow water, nutrients, and air to reach the roots of established grass and creates healthier soil overall. This process creates the ideal conditions for overseeding, where the new seeds fall into these holes rather than lay on top of hard, compressed soil. Slice seeding uses a machine that cuts thin furrows and drops in the seeds for direct contact with the soil, and is best if aeration not yet needed. We will determine which option is most appropriate for your lawn’s condition and add you to our schedule. These procedures are best applied in late summer or early fall, when the soil is warm but the air is getting cooler – the perfect conditions for the new seeds to germinate and establish roots.
Preventing Pests
July is an ideal time to consider pest prevention strategies for your property. We schedule the third phase of our four part Organic Tick Management Program now, designed to break the breeding cycle and help keep your property safe for people and pets. Japanese beetles favor this warm weather to lay their eggs in the soil of your lawn, which hatch to become grubs, destroying your grass as they feed on its roots. Gerbert & Sons uses only organic solutions to control these invaders around your yard.
