Holiday Safety Tips and Deer Deterrent Options
Keeping spirits bright and safe!
A beautiful live tree is often the centerpiece of your holiday decorations, and with a little care and attention, it can remain fragrant and healthy into the new year. Begin by cutting 1-2” from the base of the trunk before placing it in the stand. Fill the stand with water and be sure to refill daily as needed. Check that it is not blocking an exit, is at least 3’ from a heat source and far from an open flame. Decorative lights add that finishing sparkle to your tree, but be careful to never run the wires under carpeting, overload outlets and extension cords, or leave the lights on overnight or when you are not at home. Outdoor lighting is a welcome addition to your driveway and walkways, providing family and guests with a bright path to your door, and we recommend using environmentally-friendly ice melt products to keep these paths clear and safe.
Deer deterrents for your property
As their food sources become limited with winter’s cold and snow, the deer population in our area often move their foraging further onto residential properties. By stripping bark from vulnerable trees and removing leaves from young bushes and shrubs, they can cause damage and possible death to plantings around your yard. The professionals at Gerbert & Sons will assess your vulnerability and provide effective solutions to this hungry deer threat, from our organic deer deterrent sprays, to installing custom deer netting and fencing.
