Now is the Time to Prune Your Trees and Shrubs!
It is now officially springtime in New England (although it doesn’t always feel like it!) and while you may be planning some spring cleaning, don’t forget about getting your outdoor landscape ready for the warmer months!
We are often asked when the proper time to prune your trees and bushes is – you’ll be pleased to know that it doesn’t take a horticulturist degree to determine when to prune! The timing depends on when the tree or shrub blooms and whether it blooms on top of old growth or not. Light pruning and the removal of dead wood can be done anytime. However, as a general guideline, those that flower during summer should be pruned in the early spring (now is a good time!), after the coldest part of winter has passed. This will create a vigorous burst of new growth when it blooms again.
