Holiday Safety Tips and Deer Deterrent Options
Keeping the holidays safe & bright!
There’s nothing like the timeless beauty and scent that a live tree brings to your home for the holidays. Many lasting traditions start with choosing the perfect tree and then decorating it to welcome family and friends as we celebrate the season. To ensure that it stays healthy and safe while on display, it is important to keep some valuable tips in mind. Trim 1”-2” from the base of the trunk before securing it into a sturdy stand and be sure the entire tree is at least 3’ from a heat source or open flame, and does not block an exit. Fill the stand with water and make a plan to refill it daily as needed. When adding lights, be certain not to overload any extension cords, and never place them under carpeting. Turn off decorative lights at night or when not at home and never leave lit candles unattended. Check for proper outdoor lighting on driveways, walkways, and porches to provide a bright path to your front door, and we suggest using environmentally-safe ice melting products to keep these areas clear and safe.
Get ahead of hungry deer
With the very dry conditions in our area this year, deer will be foraging even deeper into our residential properties in search of food and water this winter. Young bushes and shrubs and the bark from vulnerable trees become sought after food sources to be nibbled on, resulting in damage and possible death to these plantings. Our team will evaluate your property to offer the most effective deer deterrent strategies to combat this threat, including organic deer deterrent sprays, protective netting and custom fencing, and natural landscaping options that are deer resistant.
