A Front Walk Reimagined
The new owners of this Westport home have begun the multi-phase process of renovating areas of their property that are in disrepair, unsafe, and outdated. The expert craftsmen at Gerbert & Sons once again collaborated with local landscape architect Barbara Wilson, bringing to life her custom plan to upgrade and beautify the front of this home. The photos below document the progress as each issue of this first stage of renovation was addressed and remediated. Check back later in this month as we reveal another area of their property that was evaluated and improved by our team of professionals.
The existing landing at the front door was not wide enough to provide safe egress, and the mortar joints of the out-dated bricks had eroded from water infiltration. We extended the landing with new distinctive bluestone steps and a beautiful granite veneer, making it more secure and welcoming.
The front walkway, which leads from the garage and driveway to the front and side doors, was uneven, poorly installed, too steep, and slippery when wet. Our solution was the installation of four bluestone treads to compensate for the sloping yard, along with new concrete pavers and the installation of low voltage path lights along the sides, making passage easier and safer. This phase of the renovation was complemented by low maintenance plantings of evergreen shrubs, flowering shrubs, and perennials, adding inviting colorful flowers and foliage.
