Winter can be Tough on Your Masonry
The stresses of winter weather often cause damage in masonry that rear their ugly head as cracks in stone walls or bricks falling off a chimney. Moisture gets trapped inside masonry materials, and when temperatures dip below freezing, the masonry freezes and expands. The trapped water thaws as the weather warms back up and causes cracks in stones or bricks and mortar. Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing lead to the breakdown of masonry materials. Although we’re only about halfway through winter, it’s a great time to plan masonry repairs so your home is ready to be showcased in the warmer months ahead!
