Fall Landscaping Ideas for Fairfield County
Is your landscape everything it could be? Take a little time now to evaluate your yard and consider filling out the areas that need some enhancement with these fall friendly plantings.
Consider planting bulbs and perennials
Take this opportunity to get those spring-blooming bulbs into the ground. A little effort before the ground gets too hard will result in a wonderful burst of long-awaited color next spring. Since perennials also love to be planted in these more temperate fall months, look for areas where they can be added to give more depth and added variety. If perennials are already a part of your yard, it might be time for them to be divided! If there is overcrowding, woody or dry stems, or fewer, smaller flowers from last year, we can divide and replant them for a healthier, more colorful garden next year.
Add shrubs and trees to complete your landscape
Early fall is a wonderful time to introduce shrubs and trees to your home’s environment. The foliage of many perennial shrubs never fades, adding year-long color and interest to your yard. Planting shrubs and trees when the air temperature is cooler than that of the soil encourages new root growth, as opposed to new top growth, resulting in a stronger, more established root system in the spring. Mulching these new plantings with wood chips is suggested for additional insulation and moisture control.
