Adding Irrigation Systems to Your Landscape
Properly designed, installed, maintained and managed landscape irrigation systems make sure that your lawn and garden are always at peak health, while greatly reducing the amount of water that is wasted every year. Taking the time to create the right plan leads to better plant growth, better use of resources, and better conservation in the hot summer months.
At Gerbert and Sons, we have years of experience creating and maintaining specialized irrigation systems custom designed for your particular garden. We start by evaluating the site and your irrigation needs, along with water and power supplies to determine which sprinklers and other equipment would work best. Once we’ve created a custom irrigation plan, it’s time to go into action; it’s important that your irrigation system be laid out with close attention to how the different “circuits” of sprinklers, valves and main lines interact with each other and your land.
There are many types of sprinklers and other watering options available, and the best type for use in a specific case depends on a series of factors: water pressure and flow available; local environmental conditions such as wind, temperature, and precipitation; soil type and the rate at which it can accept water, among others. The size and shape of the areas to be irrigated are also a primary factor. The goal is to select the type of sprinklers that will cover the area properly using the least hardware possible. The type of plant material to be irrigated can also dictate which type of sprinkler is to be used. Lawns, shrubs, trees and ground covers may all require different types of sprinklers.
With the warmer weather, we hope you are thinking a little bit about what kind of water your yard will be needing through the summer- your plants and your family will thank you!
